Schlouch Stands With Survivors This Breast Cancer Awareness Month

October 08, 2026

For Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Schlouch Incorporated is supporting Breast Cancer Support Services of Berks County (BCSS) through its 5th Annual Schlouch Trapshoot, held Sunday, November 8, at 5330 Lorane Rd, Reading, PA. Proceeds fund BCSS counseling, financial aid, and comfort bags for breast cancer patients across Berks County.

The sun comes up on a lot of job sites across Berks County, and behind every one of them is a crew, and behind every crew are families. Some of those families know what it means to sit in a waiting room, to hear a diagnosis that changes everything, or to watch someone they love fight through treatment.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, a time set aside to recognize survivors, support those still fighting, and honor the loved ones we’ve lost. This year, Schlouch Incorporated is standing with our community by supporting Breast Cancer Support Services of Berks County (BCSS), a local organization doing meaningful work for local families.

Who Schlouch Is Supporting: Breast Cancer Support Services of Berks County

BCSS is based in West Reading and has spent over 32 years helping people affected by breast cancer. The organization offers more than 30 distinct support programs and workshops, ranging from newly diagnosed support groups to yoga and lunch-and-learn sessions, all offered free of charge.

Beyond programming, BCSS provides several additional resources for patients and survivors:

  • A Counseling Assistance Program for emotional support during and after treatment.
  • A Survivor’s Financial Aid Fund to ease the monetary burden of diagnosis and recovery.
  • A Support Line, available seven days a week from 9 am to 9 pm, staffed for real conversations when people need them most.
  • Comfort Bags, distributed through partnerships with local hospitals, surgeons, and doctors’ offices for those who have just received a diagnosis.

Since its founding, BCSS has served over 15,000 survivors and donors and distributed more than 5,000 comfort bags. It’s local people helping local people through one of the hardest years of their lives.

Why Breast Cancer Awareness Month Matters to Berks County

Breast cancer doesn’t just affect the person diagnosed. It ripples out to spouses, children, coworkers, and friends, all of whom are trying to figure out how to help. Many families face financial hardship during treatment, on top of the emotional weight of uncertainty and fear.

Schlouch Incorporated builds things for this community: roads, sites, and infrastructure that people depend on every day. Supporting the people who live and work here is part of that same commitment. Local organizations like BCSS fill gaps that many families don’t know they’ll need to fill until they’re standing in the middle of them.
