Schlouch Adventure Day 2026

July 31, 2026

Adventure Day was created to give Schlouch families an opportunity to experience what their parents, spouses, and family members do every day in the construction industry.

Rather than simply talking about construction, we invited children to become construction workers for the day through safe, hands-on activities that encouraged teamwork, learning, imagination, and fun.

Our mission was simple: Have FUN. Stay SAFE. Get DIRTY. Build Something AWESOME.

The Setting

Adventure Day was held on an active Tuskes Homes residential construction project, transforming a real jobsite into an interactive construction camp for employees’ families. Families rotated through stations around the project, experiencing many aspects of site construction in a safe, controlled environment.

The Morning Kickoff

The day began with:

  • Registration
  • Kids receiving real PPE
  • Company-wide welcome
  • Safety huddle
  • PPE demonstration
  • Group photo

Even though it was a family event, we treated safety exactly as we would on one of our job sites.

Children learned why construction workers wear hard hats, safety glasses, high-visibility vests, gloves, and hearing protection before participating in any activities. Every station also began with its own safety talk, reinforcing Schlouch’s belief that safety comes first — even during fun.

Five Interactive Construction Stations

Families rotated through five 30-minute stations designed and led by Schlouch employees and volunteers.

1. Equipment Buddy Rides

Kids experienced riding in construction equipment in training seats with trained operators while learning how heavy equipment helps build roads, neighborhoods, and commercial projects.

2. Pipe Installation Station

Children became utility crews by:

  • Connecting small pieces of PVC pipe to move water from one 5-gallon bucket to another
  • Working together to complete a project

This station highlighted teamwork and the way infrastructure is built beneath the surface.

3. Static Equipment Experience

Families explored a variety of construction equipment up close. Employees explained:

  • What each machine does
  • Where it’s used
  • How operators safely perform their work

Kids asked questions, climbed into equipment, and experienced construction from the operator’s perspective.

4. Excavation Station

Using toy construction equipment and dirt, children worked together to complete excavation projects while learning:

  • Grading
  • Moving material
  • Planning work
  • Teamwork

The station helped kids understand how an excavation crew works together before construction even begins. They also dug for little treasures to take home with them.

5. Construction Art Station — Imagination Station

Construction isn’t only about machines. Construction takes a creative mind every day. Children had opportunities to:

  • Paint
  • Create construction-themed artwork
  • Express creativity
  • Take home projects from the day

More Experiences Throughout the Day

Additional activities included:

  • Trench Roller demonstration
  • Dirt play area
  • Lunch with families
  • Time to explore equipment
  • Giveaways and take-home memories

The entire site was designed to keep kids engaged while introducing them to different careers within construction.

Safety Was the Foundation

Adventure Day reflected Schlouch’s everyday commitment to safety. Highlights included:

  • Safety huddle before activities
  • PPE for participants
  • Station-specific safety briefings
  • CPR/AED-trained safety professionals
  • First aid kits  available through the stations
  • AED on site
  • Parent/guardian supervision throughout the event
  • Clearly marked volunteers, group leaders, and chaperones by shirt color

It Took a Team

Adventure Day was nearly a year in the making. The event was planned by a dedicated core team and supported by dozens of volunteers who:

  • Built activity stations
  • Coordinated logistics
  • Led groups
  • Managed registration
  • Taught safety
  • Operated equipment
  • Photographed the event
  • Served lunch
  • Kept everything running smoothly
